Vinyl plank flooring is usually made of four separate layers that can vary in thickness and quality based on the brand you select. The thicker the layers, especially the wear layer, the more durable the flooring will be. Those four layers include the back layer, water resistant layer, printed layer and the wear layer. The layer at the back of the flooring is made of cork or foam which serves a dual purpose – it works as an underlayment that provides cushioning between the subfloor and the vinyl flooring and a noise reducer when walking on the floors which is particularly important if the flooring is installed on a second floor. The water resistant layer is made of water either plastic composite or stone plastic composite. This layer is made to absorb moisture without causing swelling of the planks. The printed layer is the layer on which the high definition finish is printed. The final layer, the wear layer protects the printed layer against damages.
